Day Seven

The one full day on the island of Caye Caulker was left up to each missionary to decide what to do with. As It was the only day that an alarm clock wasn’t needed, most of us opted to sleep in a bit, before heading out to explore. Seen here is the “lobby” for our hotel on the island, M&N Guest House.
Such a fun spot!

We may not have needed alarm clocks, but God decided to wake us up early anyways. This downpour hit hard and gave us a little jolt in the early morning hours. Thankfully, any rain we had throughout the whole trip was usually over and done with pretty quickly.

…and the result from that first rain shower was a full rainbow!

Even the wildlife were taking it easy.

This iguana was blocking the door to one of our second floor guest rooms. We concluded it was a momma, as we saw a baby’s head poking out of the boards near the top of the stairs.
It was decided that nothing needed to be retrieved from that room any time soon…

Walking down the shore, this squad of pelicans was spotted perched on posts in the water. When these fisherman would chum the waters, they’d swarm like this before returning to their posts.

Seashell hunting is a must on a Caribbean island!

Off for a snorkeling adventure! A little over half of our missionaries went out together with some delightful guides.

That line of white waves cresting is the second largest coral reef in the world, known as the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. It’s about 190 miles long and the destination for our snorkeling.

Pictured here are the nurse sharks and stingrays that our missionaries soon jumped in with and swam alongside.

Short, vibrant rainbow for the sail back to shore.

Catching the sunset from our sailboat, while seeing another in the distance, as well as a small plane.
Throw in the humor of our guides and island music, and this outing turned into what will be a lasting memory of the trip for many.

We capped off our night by coming together for dinner.
Sharing one last meal allowed us a chance to chat about different moments from the previous week, get to know some of the others we maybe didn’t get to work alongside and share a lot of laughter. It was so hard to believe our time was nearly up at this point. Though we were all anxious to get home, it was difficult to think about saying goodbye to everyone.

As the evening drew to a close, we said goodnight, finished packing up and settled in for our final sleep in Belize, praying for safe travel the next day.
