Day Two
We started our day the best way possible…
…Holy Mass at Divine Mercy Church.
Team Belama getting a good start on flooring.
So many screws. So little time.
Taking a breather.
Flooring is finished!
Team Holy Emmanuel starting their flooring,
with a little local help.
Making great progress!
A little break in the shade.
Smiles on their faces despite the intense heat.
Team Paint got to get out and see the building sites today.
This was the walk back to the vehicles from the Holy Emmanuel site. The pallets were starting to soften, but prevented a trek through the swampy mud.
One of our gecko friends.
So many chances to witness beautiful wildlife!
House in the Belama neighborhood.
Playing catch with some adorable kiddos. Our team is hoping to fix the roof on this house. It was built on a previous mission trip and since moved to this location.
Set of seven year-old triplets and their three year-old twin siblings! These cuties live with their mother, uncle and grandmother, in the yellow house above. They showed our missionaries joy personified. The fun they had and those big bright smiles were so genuine, in spite of their living conditions. To say it put our lives in perspective is an understatement.
Another gecko friend checking out our painting skills.
A stroll alongside the Caribbean Ocean showed us a locked door to nowhere, as well as many other interesting sights…
Shipwrecked sail boats.
Fine, feathered friends.
We capped off our night by splitting up and heading out to various spots for dinner. Our hosts were parishioners of the church who so generously took us in and fed us amazing meals. This one was on a canal.
Abraham showing off his machete skills and cracking into various coconuts for us to try the milk, water,
meat and “apples.”
We all shared a drink of the water-quite tasty.
Some of the missionaries even tried a hand at it!
Don’t worry, Mom. He still has all his fingers!
Yum!
Just a touch of ice with that punch.
Taking over the grilling duties.
Some much needed relaxation under the natural umbrella of the palm trees.
This meal was so incredible. We are truly blessed to have been taken care of by these lovingly faithful families.
We ended our night with a rosary together, and would ask anyone reading this to please pray for the repose of the soul of Grace. Our host just lost his sister yesterday and STILL welcomed us into his home and fed us.
The Belizian people are a strong people. A faithful people.
May God bless them now, and always. Amen.
